एवं परुषितस् तेन तदा शारद्वतेन सः ॥
कर्णः प्रहरतां श्रेष्ठः कृपं वाक्यम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
शूरा गर्जन्ति सततं प्रावृषीव बलाहकाः ॥
फलं चाशु प्रयच्छन्ति बीजम् उप्तम् ऋताव् इव ॥
दोषम् अत्र न पश्यामि शूराणां रणमूर्धनि ॥
तत् तद् विकत्थमानानां भारं चोद्वहतां मृधे ॥
यं भारं पुरुषो वोढुं मनसा हि व्यवस्यति ॥
दैवम् अस्य ध्रुवं तत्र साहाय्यायोपपद्यते ॥

evaṃ paruṣitas tena tadā śāradvatena saḥ ||
karṇaḥ praharatāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ kṛpaṃ vākyam athābravīt ||
śūrā garjanti satataṃ prāvṛṣīva balāhakāḥ ||
phalaṃ cāśu prayacchanti bījam uptam ṛtāv iva ||
doṣam atra na paśyāmi śūrāṇāṃ raṇamūrdhani ||
tat tad vikatthamānānāṃ bhāraṃ codvahatāṃ mṛdhe ||
yaṃ bhāraṃ puruṣo voḍhuṃ manasā hi vyavasyati ||
daivam asya dhruvaṃ tatra sāhāyyāyopapadyate ||

शूराः गर्जन्ति सततम्śūrāḥ garjanti satatamthe brave roar constantly; the brave roar constantly
प्रावृषि इव बलाहकाःprāvṛṣi iva balāhakāḥ[like in] the rainy season the clouds; like clouds in the rainy season
फलम् च आशु प्रयच्छन्तिphalam ca āśu prayacchantiand fruit quickly they give; and quickly they bring forth fruit

दोषम् अत्र न पश्यामिdoṣam atra na paśyāmia fault here I do not see; I see no fault here
शूराणाम् रणमूर्धनिśūrāṇām raṇamūrdhani[in] the brave [at] the head of battle; in the brave at the head of battle
तत् तत् विकत्थमानानाम्tat tat vikatthamānānāmthis and that boasting; boasting this and that
भारम् च उद्वहताम् मृधेbhāram ca udvahatām mṛdheand bearing the burden [in] the fray; and bearing the burden in the fray
यम् भारम् पुरुषः वोढुम्yam bhāram puruṣaḥ voḍhumthe burden that a man [decides] to bear; the burden that a man resolves to bear
मनसा हि व्यवस्यतिmanasā hi vyavasyatiwith his mind indeed decides; decides with his own mind
दैवम् अस्य ध्रुवम् तत्रdaivam asya dhruvam tatrahis fate surely there; his fate surely there
साहाय्याय उपपद्यतेsāhāyyāya upapadyatecomes to his aid; comes to his aid
अनुवाद

Thus stung by Sharadvata, Karna, foremost of strikers, then spoke a word to Kripa: "The brave roar constantly, like clouds in the rainy season, and quickly bring forth fruit, like seed sown in season. I see no fault here — in the brave at the head of battle boasting this and that and bearing the burden in the fray. The burden that a man resolves in his mind to bear — his fate surely comes there to his aid."
