एवम् उक्त्वा ततः कृष्णो रथाद् भूमिम् अपातयत् ॥
निःश्वसन्तं यथा नागं क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनम् ॥
यदापकृष्टः स रथान् न्यासितश् चायुधं भुवि ॥
ततो नारायणास्त्रं तत् प्रशान्तं शत्रुतापनम् ॥
तस्मिन् प्रशान्ते विधिना तदा तेजसि दुःसहे ॥
बभूवुर् विमलाः सर्वा दिशः प्रदिश एव च ॥
evam uktvā tataḥ kṛṣṇo rathād bhūmim apātayat ||
niḥśvasantaṃ yathā nāgaṃ krodhasaṃraktalocanam ||
yadāpakṛṣṭaḥ sa rathān nyāsitaś cāyudhaṃ bhuvi ||
tato nārāyaṇāstraṃ tat praśāntaṃ śatrutāpanam ||
tasmin praśānte vidhinā tadā tejasi duḥsahe ||
babhūvur vimalāḥ sarvā diśaḥ pradiśa eva ca ||
Having said this, Krishna then brought [Bhima] down from the chariot to the ground, sighing like a serpent, with eyes reddened by anger. When he was dragged from the chariot and the weapon was laid down upon the ground, then that Narayana weapon, the scorcher of foes, was pacified. When that unbearable heat was pacified according to the rule, all the quarters and the intermediate quarters became clear.

As soon as Bhima laid down his weapon and stepped onto the ground, the fearsome weapon at once grew still, and the directions of the sky cleared. It is telling that the pacification took place 'according to the rule' -- through the exact performance of the prescribed remedy, not through struggle. The verse teaches that some dangers yield only before the correctly fulfilled condition of their taming; and the clearing of the heavens after Bhima's submission shows that the world is restored when even the last stubborn one bows before wisdom.
