नीलकण्ठ उवाच
मत्प्रसादान् मनुष्येषु देवगन्धर्वयोनिषु ॥
अप्रमेयबलात्मा त्वं नारायण भविष्यसि ॥
न च त्वा प्रसहिष्यन्ति देवासुरमहोरगाः ॥
न पिशाचा न गन्धर्वा न नरा न च राक्षसाः ॥
न सुपर्णास् तथा नागा न च विश्वे वियोनिजाः ॥
न कश् चित् त्वां च देवो ऽपि समरेषु विजेष्यति ॥
nīlakaṇṭha uvāca
matprasādān manuṣyeṣu devagandharvayoniṣu ||
aprameyabalātmā tvaṃ nārāyaṇa bhaviṣyasi ||
na ca tvā prasahiṣyanti devāsuramahoragāḥ ||
na piśācā na gandharvā na narā na ca rākṣasāḥ ||
na suparṇās tathā nāgā na ca viśve viyonijāḥ ||
na kaś cit tvāṃ ca devo 'pi samareṣu vijeṣyati ||
[Shiva said:] "By my grace, among humans and in the wombs of gods and gandharvas, you, Narayana, will be of immeasurable strength. And you will not be overpowered by gods, asuras, or great serpents; nor by pishachas, gandharvas, humans, or rakshasas. Nor by suparnas, nor nagas, nor by all beings born of various wombs; and no one, not even a god, will defeat you in battle."

Rudra grants Narayana invincibility in all births and worlds — here lies the explanation for why Keshava and Arjuna survived unharmed. It is notable that the gift is spoken as a grace: the Highest shelters the Highest, and the Lord's invulnerability in His earthly descents has its foundation from above. The verse teaches that protection over a righteous cause flows from an eternal blessing; and whoever guards Krishna together with Arjuna guards the very order of the world for whose sake they descend.
