विज्ञानात्मा सह देवैश् च सर्वैः प्राणा भूतानि संप्रतिष्ठन्ति यत्र ।
तद् अक्षरं वेदयते यस् तु सोम्य स सर्वज्ञः सर्वम् एवाविवेशेति

The sealing verse of the fourth question gathers its whole ladder into one stanza: vijñānātmā — the knowing soul, saha devaiś ca sarvaiḥ — with all the gods (the powers), prāṇā bhūtāni — the prāṇas and the beings — sampratiṣṭhanti yatra — "in whom they are all established": here is the full list of birds upon the single Tree — from the elements to the knowing soul herself. tad akṣaraṁ vedayate yas tu — "he who knows that Imperishable" — sa sarvajñaḥ sarvam evāviveśa — "he is all-knowing; he has entered into all".
sarva-jña — "all-knowing": not in the sense of an encyclopedia of facts but by the root: one who has known the Ground knows the main thing about everything — whose it is and in whom it stands; so one who knows the ocean "knows" all its waves without counting them. āviveśa — "he has entered into all": the knowledge of the Ground removes the partition — the world ceases to be "outside".
Four questions have been traversed, and the design of the whole is visible: creatures are from Prajāpati; the body is held by prāṇa; prāṇa is the Ātman's shadow; and everything, up to the soul, is established in the Imperishable. The ladder is vertical and has been climbed to the top. The last two questions are about the way (Oṁ, question 5) and about the goal in its fullness (the Puruṣa of sixteen parts, question 6): from the map to the road and the home.
