सागरप्रतिरूपाभिः परिखाभिः अलंकृतम्sāgarapratirūpābhiḥ parikhābhiḥ alaṃkṛtam[the city,] adorned with moats resembling the ocean,
प्राकारेण च संपन्नं दिवम् आवृत्य तिष्ठताprākāreṇa ca saṃpannaṃ divam āvṛtya tiṣṭhatāand furnished with a wall [as if] veiling the sky, [so tall];
पाण्डुराभ्रप्रकाशेन हिमराशिनिभेन चpāṇḍurābhraprakāśena himarāśinibhena cain radiance [white] like a bright cloud and like a heap of snow,
शुशुभे तत् पुरश्रेष्ठं नागैः भोगवती यथाśuśubhe tat puraśreṣṭhaṃ nāgaiḥ bhogavatī yathāthat best of cities shone, as Bhogavati [the city of the nagas] shines with serpents;
द्विपक्षगरुडप्रख्यैः द्वारैः घोरप्रदर्शनैःdvipakṣagaruḍaprakhyaiḥ dvāraiḥ ghorapradarśanaiḥwith gates resembling two-winged Garuda, terrible to behold,
गुप्तम् अभ्रचयप्रख्यैः गोपुरैः मन्दरोपमैःguptam abhracayaprakhyaiḥ gopuraiḥ mandaropamaiḥguarded by gate-towers resembling banks of clouds, [as tall] as Mandara;
शक्तिभिः च आवृतं तत् हि द्विजिह्वैः इव पन्नगैःśaktibhiḥ ca āvṛtaṃ tat hi dvijihvaiḥ iva pannagaiḥand set about with spears, as if with double-tongued serpents;
तीक्ष्णाङ्कुशशतघ्नीभिः यन्त्रजालैः च शोभितम्tīkṣṇāṅkuśaśataghnībhiḥ yantrajālaiḥ ca śobhitamadorned with sharp hooks, shataghnis [missile weapons], and nets of engines,
आयसैः च महाचक्रैः शुशुभे तत् पुरोत्तमम्āyasaiḥ ca mahācakraiḥ śuśubhe tat purottamamand with great iron wheels that best of cities shone;

Here the city appears as an unassailable stronghold. It is significant that the wild forest is turned into a fortress, impregnable and majestic: by labor and valor a wasteland is transformed into a bulwark. Here it is revealed that the blessed make flourish everything they undertake. Thus the scripture reveals the strength and beauty of Indraprastha; and its might is the guarantee of safety for the righteous.
