तत्र भूतान्य् अनेकानि रक्ष्यन्ते स्म प्रसङ्गतः ॥
तं दिधक्षुर् न शक्नोमि दग्धुं शक्रस्य तेजसा ॥
स मां प्रज्वलितं दृष्ट्वा मेघाम्भोभिः प्रवर्षति ॥
ततो दग्धुं न शक्नोमि दिधक्षुर् दावम् ईप्सितम् ॥

Here even Agni is powerless before Indra's intercession. It is significant that fire, the all-consuming, is quenched under Shakra's rain: even a mighty power meets its limit in another power. Every strength has a boundary and needs an ally. The scripture shows here Agni's helplessness alone; and therefore he seeks the help of the heroes.
