संतीर्य सरयूं रम्यां दृष्ट्वा पूर्वांश् च कोसलान् ॥
अतीत्य जग्मुर् मिथिलां मालां चर्मण्वतीं नदीम् ॥
उत्तीर्य गङ्गां शोणं च सर्वे ते प्राङ्मुखास् त्रयः ॥
कुरवोरश्छदं जग्मुर् मागधं क्षेत्रम् अच्युताः ॥

"Having crossed the delightful Sarayu and seen the eastern Kosalas, they passed beyond them and went to Mithila and to the rivers Mala and Charmanvati; having crossed the Ganga and the Shona, all three, facing east, the unfailing ones, reached the Magadha field, overgrown with grass."

Here the heroes press on toward their goal, river after river. It is telling that the road to the deliverance of the oppressed is long and hard: no great deed is accomplished without a patient journey. The verse shows steadfastness in a righteous undertaking; next they will behold the tyrant's city.
