न्यस्तमात्रस्य तस्याङ्के भुजाव् अभ्यधिकाव् उभौ ॥
पेततुस् तच् च नयनं निममज्ज ललाटजम् ॥
तद् दृष्ट्वा व्यथिता त्रस्ता वरं कृष्णम् अयाचत ॥
ददस्व मे वरं कृष्ण भयार्ताया महाभुज ॥

译文
"No sooner was [the son] placed upon Krishna's lap than his extra arms both fell away, and that eye born on his forehead sank in. Seeing this, shaken and terrified, [the mother] begged a boon of Krishna: "Grant me a boon, o Krishna, tormented by fear, o mighty-armed one.""

The sign came to pass in Krishna's lap -- and the mother, seeing that before her stands the one named "death" of her son, in terror runs to Him for mercy. Tellingly, in the hour when calamity is revealed she seeks refuge not from Krishna but in Krishna: the one named destroyer proves to be the sole refuge. The verse teaches that even the Lord's fearsome ordaining does not turn the believer's heart away from Him, but draws it near: for where else is one to seek protection than in the One in whose hand lie both life and death? To take refuge in the Lord even from the Lord's own will -- this is the highest wisdom of devotion.
