"O Madhava, a rain of flesh and blood has poured from the sky, and a radiant city of the gandharvas has appeared, with a wall, a moat, a rampart, and beautiful gates. There a black ring covers the sun and stands at sunrise and sunset, at twilight, foretelling great fear. A single she-jackal howls dreadfully: this is a sign of defeat. Frightful black-necked birds, hovering, fly toward the twilight: this is a sign of defeat. Men have begun, above all, to hate brahmins, teachers, and loyal servants: this is a sign of defeat. The east has turned the color of blood, the south the color of weapons, and the west, O Madhusudana, resembles a raw earthen vessel."
