शकुनिः प्रतिविन्ध्यं तु पराक्रान्तं पराक्रमी ॥
अभ्यद्रवत राजेन्द्र मत्तो मत्तम् इव द्विपम् ॥
यौधिष्ठिरस् तु संक्रुद्धः सौबलं निशितैः शरैः ॥
व्यदारयत संग्रामे मघवान् इव दानवम् ॥
शकुनिः प्रतिविन्ध्यं तु प्रतिविध्यन्तम् आहवे ॥
व्यदारयन् महाप्राज्ञः शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
सुदक्षिणं तु राजेन्द्र काम्बोजानां महारथम् ॥
श्रुतकर्मा पराक्रान्तम् अभ्यद्रवत संयुगे ॥
सुदक्षिणस् तु समरे साहदेविं महारथम् ॥
विद्ध्वा नाकम्पयत वै मैनाकम् इव पर्वतम् ॥
श्रुतकर्मा ततः क्रुद्धः काम्बोजानां महारथम् ॥
शरैर् बहुभिर् आनर्छद् दारयन्न् इव सर्वशः ॥
इरावान् अथ संक्रुद्धः श्रुतायुषम् अमर्षणम् ॥
प्रत्युद्ययौ रणे यत्तो यत्तरूपतरं ततः ॥
आर्जुनिस् तस्य समरे हयान् हत्वा महारथः ॥
ननाद सुमहन् नादं तत् सैन्यं प्रत्यपूरयत् ॥
श्रुतायुस् त्व् अथ संक्रुद्धः फाल्गुनेः समरे हयान् ॥
निजघान गदाग्रेण ततो युद्धम् अवर्तत ॥
विन्दानुविन्दाव् आवन्त्यौ कुन्तिभोजं महारथम् ॥
ससेनं ससुतं वीरं संससज्जतुर् आहवे ॥
तत्राद्भुतम् अपश्याम आवन्त्यानां पराक्रमम् ॥
यद् अयुध्यन् स्थिरा भूत्वा महत्या सेनया सह ॥
अनुविन्दस् तु गदया कुन्तिभोजम् अताडयत् ॥
कुन्तिभोजस् ततस् तूर्णं शरव्रातैर् अवाकिरत् ॥
कुन्तिभोजसुतश् चापि विन्दं विव्याध सायकैः ॥
स च तं प्रतिविव्याध तद् अद्भुतम् इवाभवत् ॥

irāvān atha saṃkruddhaḥ śrutāyuṣam amarṣaṇam ||
pratyudyayau raṇe yatto yattarūpataraṃ tataḥ ||
ārjunis tasya samare hayān hatvā mahārathaḥ ||
nanāda sumahan nādaṃ tat sainyaṃ pratyapūrayat ||
śrutāyus tv atha saṃkruddhaḥ phālguneḥ samare hayān ||
nijaghāna gadāgreṇa tato yuddham avartata ||
vindānuvindāv āvantyau kuntibhojaṃ mahāratham ||
sasenaṃ sasutaṃ vīraṃ saṃsasajjatur āhave ||
tatrādbhutam apaśyāma āvantyānāṃ parākramam ||
yad ayudhyan sthirā bhūtvā mahatyā senayā saha ||
anuvindas tu gadayā kuntibhojam atāḍayat ||
kuntibhojas tatas tūrṇaṃ śaravrātair avākirat ||
kuntibhojasutaś cāpi vindaṃ vivyādha sāyakaiḥ ||
sa ca taṃ prativivyādha tad adbhutam ivābhavat ||
The valiant Shakuni, O king of kings, attacked the valiant Prativindhya, as a rutting elephant attacks a rutting elephant. The enraged son of Yudhishthira rent Saubala with sharp arrows in battle, as Maghavan rends a danava. But the wise Shakuni, with well-feathered arrows, rent Prativindhya, who was shooting back at him in the fight. The mighty Shrutakarma went forth against Sudakshina, the great charioteer of the Kambojas, O king of kings. Sudakshina struck the maharatha son of Sahadeva in battle, yet did not shake him, like Mount Mainaka. Then the enraged Shrutakarma showered the great charioteer of the Kambojas with many arrows, as if rending him entirely. Then the enraged Iravan, focused and growing still more intent, went forth in battle against the intolerant Shrutayus. This maharatha, the son of Arjuna, having slain his horses, let out a mighty roar that filled the army with sound. The enraged Shrutayus, in battle, killed the horses of the son of Phalguna with a blow of his mace, and the battle began. The two Avantyas, Vinda and Anuvinda, clashed in battle with the hero Kuntibhoja, together with his son and his army. There we beheld a marvel: the valor of the men of Avanti, how they fought steadfastly together with their great host. Anuvinda struck Kuntibhoja with his mace, and Kuntibhoja quickly showered him with multitudes of arrows. The son of Kuntibhoja also pierced Vinda with arrows, and he struck back at him in return; it seemed like a marvel."
