Then Bhimaratha, with six sharp, swift-flying iron arrows, sent Shalva together with his horses and charioteer to the halls of Yama. Both your grandsons, unassailable, eager to slay one another, waged a glorious fight for the success of their fathers' cause.

Here two grandsons of Dhritarashtra's house meet — kinsmen 'eager to slay one another' 'for their fathers' cause.' The discord sown by the elders takes root in children and grandchildren, turning brothers against brothers in the third generation. It is telling that they fight not for themselves but 'for their fathers' cause' — inheriting another's quarrel as an inheritance. The verse teaches that the sin of discord, if not quenched in time, passes from generation to generation, drawing in descendants who bear no guilt; that children pay for the enmity of their fathers, shedding blood they did not poison; and that the gravest responsibility of those who start a feud lies in this — that they doom to fratricide even those not yet born when the hatred was sown.
