युक्ताभरणवेषस्य कौन्तेयस्य महात्मनः ॥
रूपम् आसीन् महाराज द्विषतां शोकवर्धनम् ॥
पाण्डरैश् चन्द्ररश्म्याभैर् हेमदण्डैश् च चामरैः ॥
दोधूयमानः शुशुभे विद्युद्भिर् इव तोयदः ॥
संस्तूयमानः सूतैश् च वन्द्यमानश् च बन्दिभिः ॥
उपगीयमानो गन्धर्वैर् आस्ते स्म कुरुनन्दनः ॥
yuktābharaṇaveṣasya kaunteyasya mahātmanaḥ ||
rūpam āsīn mahārāja dviṣatāṃ śokavardhanam ||
pāṇḍaraiś candraraśmyābhair hemadaṇḍaiś ca cāmaraiḥ ||
dodhūyamānaḥ śuśubhe vidyudbhir iva toyadaḥ ||
saṃstūyamānaḥ sūtaiś ca vandyamānaś ca bandibhiḥ ||
upagīyamāno gandharvair āste sma kurunandanaḥ ||

In fitting ornaments and attire, the form of the great-souled son of Kunti was, O great king, one that increased the grief of his enemies. Fanned by white chamaras like moon-rays with golden handles, he shone like a cloud with lightning. Extolled by sutas, glorified by bards, sung by gandharvas, sat the delight of the Kurus.

The bearing of the righteous king "dviṣatāṃ śokavardhanam", increases the grief of his enemies: the very dignity of dharma is fearsome to wrongdoing. The image "vidyudbhiḥ iva toyadaḥ", "like a cloud with lightning", joins majesty and power. It is telling that this splendor is not self-serving — it is surrounded by praise directed at the bearer of duty. The verse teaches that the true greatness of a ruler is dreadful only to the lawless; where power is clothed in dharma, its radiance troubles the enemies of righteousness, and the dignity of the just is itself a weapon against unjust cause.
