ājaghne sāyakais tīkṣṇair navabhir nataparvabhiḥ ||
so 'tividdho balavatā maheṣvāsena dhanvinā ||
īṣan mūrchāṃ jagāmāśu sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
samāśvastas tu vārṣṇeyas tava putraṃ mahāratham ||
vivyādha daśabhis tūrṇaṃ sāyakaiḥ kaṅkapatribhiḥ ||
Your son Duhshasana struck Satyaki, the Vrishni, in battle with sharp arrows, nine with smooth joints. He, deeply pierced by the mighty archer, Satyaki of true valor, quickly fell into a slight swoon. But coming to himself, the Vrishni swiftly pierced your son, the great warrior, with ten heron-feathered arrows.

Even Satyaki, of true valor, 'satyavikramaḥ,' falls for a moment into a swoon — bodily vulnerability spares not even the best. But 'samāśvastaḥ,' having come to himself, he answers at once. It is telling that the measure of a hero lies not in invulnerability but in the capacity to rise again. The verse teaches that even the strongest is overtaken by weakness, but his valor lies in rising: anyone can fall into oblivion, but to rise and carry on is the lot of the steadfast; and greatness is measured not by the absence of falls but by the swiftness of the return to duty.
