अपूजयन् महाराज कौरवाः परमाद्भुतम् ॥

यद् अश्वान् पार्थगोविन्दौ मोचयाम् आसतू रणे ॥
भयं विपुलम् अस्मासु ताव् अधत्तां नरोत्तमौ ॥
तेजो विदधतुश् चोग्रं विस्रब्धौ रणमूर्धनि ॥
tat tu pārthasya vikrāntaṃ vāsudevasya cobhayoḥ ||
apūjayan mahārāja kauravāḥ paramādbhutam ||
kim adbhutataraṃ loke bhavitāpy atha vāpy abhūt ||
yad aśvān pārthagovindau mocayām āsatū raṇe ||
bhayaṃ vipulam asmāsu tāv adhattāṃ narottamau ||
tejo vidadhatuś cograṃ visrabdhau raṇamūrdhani ||
That same valor of Partha and of Vasudeva, both, the Kauravas honored, O great king — most wondrous: 'What more wondrous thing in the world will be or has ever been, that the horses were unyoked by Partha and Govinda in battle? Those two best of men have instilled vast fear in us, and displayed their fierce ardor, confident, at the forefront of battle.'

Even the enemies 'apūjayan... paramādbhutam,' honored the wondrous deed: unyoking horses amid battle is a sign of boundless confidence. 'Visrabdhau raṇamūrdhani,' 'confident at the forefront of battle': calm amid foes instills in them 'bhayaṃ vipulam,' vast fear. It is telling that the composure of these two terrifies multitudes. The verse teaches that the calm confidence of devotees who lean on God is more fearsome than any weapon: that they quietly tend the horses in the midst of battle strikes the enemy with terror greater than blows; for nothing so frightens the wrongdoer as the serenity of one at whose side stands the Lord.
