विनिःश्वसन्तस् ते राजन् भग्नदंष्ट्रा इवोरगाः ॥
धिग् अहो धिग् गतः पार्थः कृष्णश् चेत्य् अब्रुवन् पृथक् ॥
सर्वक्षत्रस्य मिषतो रथेनैकेन दंशितौ ॥
बालक्रीडनकेनेव कदर्थीकृत्य नो बलम् ॥
क्रोशतां यतमानानाम् असंसक्तौ परंतपौ ॥
दर्शयित्वात्मनो वीर्यं प्रयातौ सर्वराजसु ॥
viniḥśvasantas te rājan bhagnadaṃṣṭrā ivoragāḥ ||
dhig aho dhig gataḥ pārthaḥ kṛṣṇaś cety abruvan pṛthak ||
sarvakṣatrasya miṣato rathenaikena daṃśitau ||
bālakrīḍanakeneva kadarthīkṛtya no balam ||
krośatāṃ yatamānānām asaṃsaktau paraṃtapau ||
darśayitvātmano vīryaṃ prayātau sarvarājasu ||
Sighing, they, O king, like serpents with broken fangs, said, each apart, 'Shame, ah, shame! Partha is gone, and Krishna.' 'Before the eyes of all the kshatriyas, on a single chariot, the two clad in armor, having humiliated our army as if with a child's toy — while we cried out and strove, the two scourges of foes, unimpeded, displaying their own valor, passed through amid all the kings.'

The Kauravas are 'bhagnadaṃṣṭrāḥ iva uragāḥ,' like serpents with broken fangs — their might is disarmed. A bitter image: they hiss but cannot bite. 'Bālakrīḍanakena iva... kadarthīkṛtya,' 'having humiliated [them], like a child's toy.' Their powerlessness before the two is telling. The verse teaches that before the will of God the might of the wrongful is like the fangs of a broken serpent: fearsome in appearance but powerless; and their whole army is turned into a 'child's toy' where two men are shadowed by the Lord, for numbers and fury are nothing before His will.
