सो ऽयं प्राप्तस् तवाक्षेपं पश्य साफल्यम् आत्मनः ॥
कथं हि राजा राज्यार्थी त्वया गच्छेत संयुगम् ॥
दिष्ट्या त्व् इदानीं संप्राप्त एष ते बाणगोचरम् ॥
स यथा जीवितं जह्यात् तथा कुरु धनंजय ॥

"He himself has come within your reach -- behold your own good fortune. For how [else] would a king, desiring the kingdom, engage in battle with you? By good fortune he has now fallen within the range of your arrows; act so that he may part with [his] life, Dhananjaya."

"Diṣṭyā... saṃprāptaḥ te bāṇagocaram," "by good fortune he has fallen within the range of your arrows": Krishna sees in the enemy's arrival the hand of fate -- "diṣṭyā," by fortune or destiny. It is telling that the Lord interprets the event as a gift of Providence: the root of evil has itself come to answer for it. The verse teaches that Providence brings evil to its reckoning in its own hour, and the wise recognize that hour: that the guilty one "has come himself" to his avenger is no accident but an arrangement from above; and to discern "diṣṭyā," the benevolent finger of fate, and to act upon it, is part of righteous wisdom.
