अभ्यवैक्षन्त राजानो भीमरूपाः समन्ततः ॥
दृष्ट्वा तु पार्थं संरब्धं वासुदेवं च मारिष ॥
प्रहसन्न् इव पुत्रस् ते योद्धुकामः समाह्वयत् ॥

译文
Seeing those two enraged -- Duryodhana and Dhananjaya -- the kings, of terrible aspect, looked on from every side. And seeing Partha enraged, and Vasudeva too, O venerable one, your son, as if smiling, challenged them, eager for battle.

Duryodhana, as if smiling, challenges the enraged Krishna and Arjuna to battle. A smile before the face of destruction -- whether courage or the madness of pride. It is telling that he himself seeks combat with the unconquerable. The verse teaches that pride, driven to its limit, laughs before its own ruin: one blinded by the intoxication of power neither retreats nor fears, but challenges the Lord Himself; and this smile of the doomed is no courage born of truth, but the last mask of a blindness walking toward its fate.
