यदा गाण्डीवधन्वानं भीमसेनं च कौरव ॥
यमौ च युधि द्रष्टासि तदा त्वं किं करिष्यसि ॥
युधि फल्गुनबाणानां सूर्याग्निसमतेजसाम् ॥
न तुल्याः सात्यकिशरा येषां भीतः पलायसे ॥
यदि तावत् कृता बुद्धिः पलायनपरायणा ॥
पृथिवी धर्मराजस्य शमेनैव प्रदीयताम् ॥
yadā gāṇḍīvadhanvānaṃ bhīmasenaṃ ca kaurava ||
yamau ca yudhi draṣṭāsi tadā tvaṃ kiṃ kariṣyasi ||
yudhi phalgunabāṇānāṃ sūryāgnisamatejasām ||
na tulyāḥ sātyakiśarā yeṣāṃ bhītaḥ palāyase ||
yadi tāvat kṛtā buddhiḥ palāyanaparāyaṇā ||
pṛthivī dharmarājasya śamenaiva pradīyatām ||
"When you see in battle the wielder of Gāṇḍīva and Bhīmasena, O Kaurava, and the twins, what will you do then? Sātyaki's arrows are no match in battle for Phalguna's arrows, blazing like sun and fire — yet from these you already flee in fear. If indeed your mind is resolved on flight, then let the earth be given to the King of Dharma in peace."

Droṇa draws the conclusion: since you flee even from Sātyaki, "pṛthivī dharmarājasya śamena eva pradīyatām" — give the earth to Yudhiṣṭhira in peace. It is telling that the teacher prefers peace to inglorious ruin. The verse teaches that it is wiser to yield to what is right than to persist toward destruction: where stubbornness leads only to defeat and shame, peace with the righteous is not weakness but wisdom — better to render what is due in peace than to lose everything in an unjust war.
