भीमसेनस्य निनदं घोरं श्रुत्वा रणाजिरे ॥
खं च भूमिं च संबद्धां मेनिरे क्षत्रियर्षभाः ॥
पुनर् घोरेण नादेन पाण्डवस्य महात्मनः ॥
समरे सर्वयोधानां धनूंष्य् अभ्यपतन् क्षितौ ॥
वित्रस्तानि च सर्वाणि शकृन्मूत्रं प्रसुस्रुवुः ॥
वाहनानि महाराज बभूवुर् विमनांसि च ॥
प्रादुरासन् निमित्तानि घोराणि च बहूनि च ॥
तस्मिंस् तु तुमुले राजन् भीमकर्णसमागमे ॥
bhīmasenasya ninadaṃ ghoraṃ śrutvā raṇājire ||
khaṃ ca bhūmiṃ ca saṃbaddhāṃ menire kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ ||
punar ghoreṇa nādena pāṇḍavasya mahātmanaḥ ||
samare sarvayodhānāṃ dhanūṃṣy abhyapatan kṣitau ||
vitrastāni ca sarvāṇi śakṛnmūtraṃ prasusruvuḥ ||
vāhanāni mahārāja babhūvur vimanāṃsi ca ||
prādurāsan nimittāni ghorāṇi ca bahūni ca ||
tasmiṃs tu tumule rājan bhīmakarṇasamāgame ||
Having heard the terrible roar of Bhimasena on the field of battle, the bulls among the kshatriyas thought sky and earth had merged. Again, at the terrible roar of the great-souled son of Pandu, in the battle the bows of all warriors fell to the ground. And all the draft animals, terrified, O great king, released dung and urine and became downcast.

Bhima's roar is such that warriors drop their bows and horses void themselves in terror: the voice of the fearsome one is itself a weapon. It is telling that fear disarms before the arrow does. The verse teaches that a frightened heart surrenders before the body does: a single cry of the valorous, kindled by righteousness, strikes the weapons from men's hands, and the terror it sows wounds more surely than any blow.
