निर्जित्य तु रणे कर्णं भीमसेनः प्रतापवान् ॥
ननाद सुमहानादं पर्जन्यनिनदोपमम् ॥
तस्य तं निनदं श्रुत्वा प्रहृष्टो ऽभूद् युधिष्ठिरः ॥
कर्णं च निर्जितं मत्वा भीमसेनेन भारत ॥
समन्ताच् छङ्खनिनदं पाण्डुसेनाकरोत् तदा ॥
शत्रुसेनाध्वनिं श्रुत्वा तावका ह्य् अपि नानदन् ॥
गाण्डीवं प्राक्षिपत् पार्थः कृष्णो ऽप्य् अब्जम् अवादयत् ॥

nanāda sumahānādaṃ parjanyaninadopamam ||
tasya taṃ ninadaṃ śrutvā prahṛṣṭo 'bhūd yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
karṇaṃ ca nirjitaṃ matvā bhīmasenena bhārata ||
samantāc chaṅkhaninadaṃ pāṇḍusenākarot tadā ||
śatrusenādhvaniṃ śrutvā tāvakā hy api nānadan ||
gāṇḍīvaṃ prākṣipat pārthaḥ kṛṣṇo 'py abjam avādayat ||
Having vanquished Karna in battle, Bhimasena, the valorous, let out a mighty roar comparable to the thunder of clouds. Hearing that roar of his, Yudhishthira became gladdened, deeming Karna vanquished by Bhimasena, O Bharata. The army of Pandu then raised the blaring of conches from all sides; hearing the din of the enemy's army, your men too roared in answer.

Bhima's roar carries word of victory to Yudhishthira, and he 'prahṛṣṭaḥ', rejoices. It is telling that a signal agreed upon by love reaches a distant heart. The verse teaches that between those who love there is a language beyond words: a triumphant cry from afar tells the dear one that all is well, and that news turns anxiety into joy, for love listens keenly for the voice of the one held dear.
