यं समाश्रित्य पुत्रैर् मे कृतं वैरं महारथैः ॥
तं सूततनयं तात कथं भीमो ह्य् अयोधयत् ॥
अनेकान् विप्रकारांश् च सूतपुत्रसमुद्भवान् ॥
स्मरमाणः कथं भीमो युयुधे सूतसूनुना ॥
यो ऽजयत् पृथिवीं सर्वां रथेनैकेन वीर्यवान् ॥
तं सूततनयं युद्धे कथं भीमो ह्य् अयोधयत् ॥
यो जातः कुण्डलाभ्यां च कवचेन सहैव च ॥
तं सूतपुत्रं समरे भीमः कथम् अयोधयत् ॥
यथा तयोर् युद्धम् अभूद् यश् चासीद् विजयी तयोः ॥
तन् ममाचक्ष्व तत्त्वेन कुशलो ह्य् असि संजय ॥

That suta's son on whom my sons, the great warriors, relied when they made this enmity — dear one, how did Bhima strike him? He who conquered the whole earth with a single chariot, the valorous one; he who was born with earrings and armor together — how did Bhima strike that suta's son in battle? Tell me truly what the battle between those two was like, and who was the victor of the two, for you are skilled, Sanjaya.

Dhritarashtra recounts Karna's greatness — born "kuṇḍalābhyāṃ kavacena," with earrings and armor, conqueror of the earth: all the hope of the dynasty rests on him. It is telling that the higher a support is exalted, the more anxious the question of its fall becomes. The verse teaches that trust placed in a single person breeds relentless anxiety: whoever stakes everything on a mortal support knows no peace, fearing its collapse — for no man is a safe refuge.
