स विक्षिप्यार्जुनस् तीक्ष्णान् सैन्धवप्रेषिताञ् शरान् ॥
युगपत् तस्य चिच्छेद शराभ्यां सैन्धवस्य ह ॥
सारथेश् च शिरः कायाद् ध्वजं च समलंकृतम् ॥
स छिन्नयष्टिः सुमहाञ् शीर्यमाणः शराहतः ॥
वराहः सिन्धुराजस्य पपाताग्निशिखोपमः ॥
एतस्मिन्न् एव काले तु द्रुतं गच्छति भास्करे ॥
अब्रवीत् पाण्डवं तत्र त्वरमाणो जनार्दनः ॥
धनंजय शिरश् छिन्धि सैन्धवस्य दुरात्मनः ॥
अस्तं महीधरश्रेष्ठं यियासति दिवाकरः ॥
शृणुष्वैव च मे वाक्यं जयद्रथवधं प्रति ॥
sa vikṣipyārjunas tīkṣṇān saindhavapreṣitāñ śarān ||
yugapat tasya ciccheda śarābhyāṃ saindhavasya ha ||
sāratheś ca śiraḥ kāyād dhvajaṃ ca samalaṃkṛtam ||
sa chinnayaṣṭiḥ sumahāñ śīryamāṇaḥ śarāhataḥ ||
varāhaḥ sindhurājasya papātāgniśikhopamaḥ ||
etasminn eva kāle tu drutaṃ gacchati bhāskare ||
abravīt pāṇḍavaṃ tatra tvaramāṇo janārdanaḥ ||
dhanaṃjaya śiraś chindhi saindhavasya durātmanaḥ ||
astaṃ mahīdharaśreṣṭhaṃ yiyāsati divākaraḥ ||
śṛṇuṣvaiva ca me vākyaṃ jayadrathavadhaṃ prati ||
He, Arjuna, having cast off the sharp arrows shot by Saindhava, at once severed with two arrows [the banner] of Saindhava. That boar of the Sindhu king, with severed staff, huge, crumbling, struck by arrows, fell, like a tongue of flame. At this very time, as the sun quickly sank, Janardana, hastening, said there to the Pandava: 'Dhananjaya, cut off the head of Saindhava, evil of soul; the day-star wishes to depart toward sunset, toward the best of mountains.'

Krishna hastens him at the very decisive moment: 'cut off the head — the sun is departing.' It is telling that the Lord Himself measures out the time and guides the devotee's hand toward the fulfillment of the vow. The verse teaches that a fateful hour demands not only heroic effort but also right guidance; and one whose path is shown by the Lord manages to accomplish what is needed before the allotted time runs out.
