द्रौणेः सकाशात् संभ्रान्तस् त्व् अपनिन्ये त्वरान्वितः ॥
तथा तु समरे विद्ध्वा राक्षसेन्द्रं घटोत्कचम् ॥
ननाद सुमहानादं द्रोणपुत्रो महाबलः ॥
पूजितस् तव पुत्रैश् च सर्वयोधैश् च भारत ॥
वपुषा प्रतिजज्वाल मध्याह्न इव भास्करः ॥
भीमसेनं तु युध्यन्तं भारद्वाजरथं प्रति ॥
स्वयं दुर्योधनो राजा प्रत्यविध्यच् छितैः शरैः ॥

nanāda sumahānādaṃ droṇaputro mahābalaḥ ||
pūjitas tava putraiś ca sarvayodhaiś ca bhārata ||
vapuṣā pratijajvāla madhyāhna iva bhāskaraḥ ||
bhīmasenaṃ tu yudhyantaṃ bhāradvājarathaṃ prati ||
svayaṃ duryodhano rājā pratyavidhyac chitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
Seeing that the son of Hiḍimbā had lost consciousness, his charioteer, alarmed by Drauṇi's nearness, carried him off in haste from the battlefield. Thus, having pierced the lord of the rākṣasas, Ghaṭotkaca, in battle, the son of Droṇa, the mighty one, roared with a mighty roar. Honored by your sons and by all the warriors, O Bhārata, he shone forth in body like the sun at midday. But at Bhīmasena, who was fighting toward Droṇa's chariot, King Duryodhana himself struck with sharp arrows.

Ghaṭotkaca is saved not by strength but by the devotion of his charioteer, who carries off his unconscious lord; and Drauṇi shines "like the sun at midday" — the hour of his triumph. It is telling that even over the rākṣasa's might, one man's skill has prevailed. The verse teaches that in a person's collapse, the faithfulness of another rescues him: where his own strength has failed, another's care saves him; and the victor's glory, bright as midday, is still fleeting — for every noon is inevitably followed by dusk.
