तं भीमसेनो नवभिः शरैर् विव्याध मारिष ॥
दुर्योधनो ऽपि विंशत्या शराणां प्रत्यविध्यत ॥
तौ सायकैर् अवच्छन्नाव् अदृश्येतां रणाजिरे ॥
मेघजालसमाच्छन्नौ नभसीवेन्दुभास्करौ ॥
अथ दुर्योधनो राजा भीमं विव्याध पत्रिभिः ॥
पञ्चभिर् भरतश्रेष्ठ तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत् ॥
तस्य भीमो धनुश् छित्त्वा ध्वजं च नवभिः शरैः ॥
विव्याध कौरवश्रेष्ठं नवत्या नतपर्वणाम् ॥
taṃ bhīmaseno navabhiḥ śarair vivyādha māriṣa ||
duryodhano 'pi viṃśatyā śarāṇāṃ pratyavidhyata ||
tau sāyakair avacchannāv adṛśyetāṃ raṇājire ||
meghajālasamācchannau nabhasīvendubhāskarau ||
atha duryodhano rājā bhīmaṃ vivyādha patribhiḥ ||
pañcabhir bharataśreṣṭha tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti cābravīt ||
tasya bhīmo dhanuś chittvā dhvajaṃ ca navabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
vivyādha kauravaśreṣṭhaṃ navatyā nataparvaṇām ||
Bhimasena pierced him with nine arrows, O venerable one, and Duryodhana pierced him back with twenty arrows. Both, showered with arrows, were seen on the field of battle, veiled as if by a net of clouds, like the moon and the sun in the sky. Then king Duryodhana pierced Bhima with five feathered arrows, O best of the Bharatas, and cried out, "Stay, stay!" Bhima, having cut his bow and banner with nine arrows, pierced the best of the Kauravas with ninety smooth-jointed arrows.

Two sworn enemies — Bhima and Duryodhana — meet at last face to face, and the verse shows them "like the moon and the sun" behind clouds: two lights fated never to shine together. It is telling that the enmity smoldering since childhood now blazes on the field of battle. The verse teaches that old hatred sooner or later seeks direct confrontation; a feud not extinguished in time grows until only the blood of one adversary can set its limit.
