ततो घटोत्कचः खड्गम् उद्गृह्याद्भुतदर्शनम् ॥
चकर्त कायाद् धि शिरो भीमं विकृतदर्शनम् ॥

udyamya nyavadhīd bhūmau mayaṃ viṣṇur ivāhave ||
tato ghaṭotkacaḥ khaḍgam udgṛhyādbhutadarśanam ||
cakarta kāyād dhi śiro bhīmaṃ vikṛtadarśanam ||
...wondrously fought [the two of them], Alambala and Ghatotkacha. With clubs and maces, javelins, hammers, pattishas, pestles and mountain peaks, the two of them struck one another. On horses and on elephants, now on foot, now as charioteers, they fought, skilled in sorcery, the foremost of rakshasas in battle. Then Ghatotkacha, O king, longing to slay Alambala, soared up, greatly enraged, plunged down like a falcon, and, having seized the vast-bodied lord of rakshasas, Alambala [struck him down upon the earth].

Having exhausted every form and weapon, Ghatotkacha decides the outcome with a simple, swift stroke -- soaring up and falling upon his foe like a falcon. It is telling that after a hundred illusions, victory comes not through cunning but through a direct strike at the right moment. The verse teaches that skill prepares, but resolve decides: after the long struggle of equals, the advantage goes to the one bold stroke that one dared before the other; and he who hesitates at the crucial moment yields to the one who dares.
