"Here is Vaikartana Karna, engaged with the son of Hidimba, performing a most mighty deed, worthy of him in the fray. Look at these brave kings, struck down by the son of Bhimasena, struck by weapons of every kind, as trees are struck down by an elephant. This is your portion in the battle, determined by me among the kings; with your own consent, O hero, destroy him, having shown your valor. This wicked Ghatotkacha, relying on the power of illusion, has long worn down Vaikartana Karna, that scourge of foes."

Duryodhana calls Ghatotkacha a "wicked one" who "relies on the power of illusion": it is easy to declare a winning enemy dishonest. It is telling that the very sorcery by which Ghatotkacha presses Karna would, had it belonged to their own side, have been praised just the same. The verse teaches that the unrighteous judge means by advantage: what is "deceit" in the foe is "valor" in oneself; and an accusation of dishonesty is often nothing but the vexation of one being defeated at another's superiority.
