तथैवालायुधो राजञ् शिलाधौतैर् अजिह्मगैः ॥
अभ्यवर्षत कौन्तेयं पुनः पुनर् अरिंदमः ॥
तथा ते राक्षसाः सर्वे भीमसेनम् उपाद्रवन् ॥
नानाप्रहरणा भीमास् त्वत्सुतानां जयैषिणः ॥
स ताड्यमानो बलिभिर् भीमसेनो महाबलः ॥
पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः सर्वांस् तान् अविध्यच् छितैः शरैः ॥
ते वध्यमाना भीमेन राक्षसाः खरयोनयः ॥
विनेदुस् तुमुलान् नादान् दुद्रुवुश् च दिशो दश ॥
tathaivālāyudho rājañ śilādhautair ajihmagaiḥ ||
abhyavarṣata kaunteyaṃ punaḥ punar ariṃdamaḥ ||
tathā te rākṣasāḥ sarve bhīmasenam upādravan ||
nānāpraharaṇā bhīmās tvatsutānāṃ jayaiṣiṇaḥ ||
sa tāḍyamāno balibhir bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ ||
pañcabhiḥ pañcabhiḥ sarvāṃs tān avidhyac chitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
te vadhyamānā bhīmena rākṣasāḥ kharayonayaḥ ||
vinedus tumulān nādān dudruvuś ca diśo daśa ||
And likewise Alayudha, O king, showered the son of Kunti again and again with straight-flying arrows whetted on stone, the tamer of foes. Thus all those rakshasas rushed upon Bhimasena, with weapons of every kind, fearsome, seeking victory for your sons. He, struck by the mighty ones, Bhimasena, of great strength, pierced them all with five sharp arrows to each. They, slain by Bhima, the rakshasas, sprung from the wombs of asses, let out tumultuous cries and fled in ten directions.

Bhima alone fends off a multitude of rakshasas, striking each in measured turn — "five arrows to each": calm precision against the fury of a mob. It is telling that the fearsome rakshasas, "born of the wombs of asses," flee with cries. The verse teaches that a disorderly multitude, however fierce, yields to one composed and skilled man; and shouting and onslaught are powerless where cool mastery stands its ground, striking down each in his turn.
