[Bhima said:] "No one here should lay down his weapons on any account; I shall repel the weapon of Drona's son with swift arrows. Or else, with this heavy, golden mace, I shall range through the battle like Kala [Time itself], crushing Drauni's weapon. For in valor there is no man here my equal, just as there is no other light equal to the sun."

Bhima alone rejects the saving counsel: the pride of valor will not let him submit. It is telling that he compares himself to the incomparable sun — self-regard swollen to the point of denying any equal at all. The verse teaches that pride in strength is blind to the limits of strength; and one who from self-conceit rejects saving wisdom prepares his own misfortune — for there is a might before which even the mightiest is powerless, and deliverance comes only through humility, not through obstinacy.
