माम् जित्वा बीत्सो क्यो जेतुं द्रथः
तावद् क्त्वा तं द्रोणः व्रातैर् वाकिरत्
थाश्वध्वजं तीक्ष्णैः प्रसन् वै साथिम्

m ajitvā na bhatso śakyo jetuṃ jayadrathaḥ ||
evad uktvā taṃ droṇaḥ śaravrātair akirat ||
sarathāśvadhvajaṃ kṣṇaiḥ prahasan vai sarathim ||

Translation

Thus addressed, the teacher then answered as if smiling: 'Without conquering me, o Bibhatsu, you cannot conquer Jayadratha.' Having said only this, Drona showered him with sharp clouds of arrows — chariot, horses, and banner — laughing, him together with his charioteer.
