ततो ऽन्तरिक्षम् उत्पत्य कालमेघ इवोन्नदन् ॥
ववर्षाञ्जनपर्वा स द्रुमवर्षं नभस्तलात् ॥
ततो मायाधरं द्रौणिर् घटोत्कचसुतं दिवि ॥
मार्गणैर् अभिविव्याध घनं सूर्य इवांशुभिः ॥
सो ऽवतीर्य पुनस् तस्थौ रथे हेमपरिष्कृते ॥
महीधर इवात्युच्चः श्रीमान् अञ्जनपर्वतः ॥
तम् अयस्मयवर्माणं द्रौणिर् भीमात्मजात्मजम् ॥
जघानाञ्जनपर्वाणं महेश्वर इवान्धकम् ॥
tato 'ntarikṣam utpatya kālamegha ivonnadan ||
vavarṣāñjanaparvā sa drumavarṣaṃ nabhastalāt ||
tato māyādharaṃ drauṇir ghaṭotkacasutaṃ divi ||
mārgaṇair abhivivyādha ghanaṃ sūrya ivāṃśubhiḥ ||
so 'vatīrya punas tasthau rathe hemapariṣkṛte ||
mahīdhara ivātyuccaḥ śrīmān añjanaparvataḥ ||
tam ayasmayavarmāṇaṃ drauṇir bhīmātmajātmajam ||
jaghānāñjanaparvāṇaṃ maheśvara ivāndhakam ||
Then, leaping into the air, roaring like a cloud of doom, Anjanaparvan poured down a rain of trees from the sky. Then Drauni pierced with arrows the bearer of illusion, the son of Ghatotkacha, there in the sky, as the sun pierces a cloud with its rays. Descending again, he stood upon his gold-adorned chariot like an immense mountain, the glorious Anjanaparvata. Him, clad in iron armor, the grandson of Bhima, Drauni slew — Anjanaparvan — as Maheshvara slew Andhaka.

Anjanaparvan dies as the asura Andhaka died at Shiva's hand: even the valiant grandson of Bhima falls before the master. It is significant that Ashvatthaman is likened to Maheshvara: his solitary might in the night battle is godlike. The verse teaches that the valor of youth does not save one before perfected skill; and one who has surpassed all in mastery strikes down even the wielders of illusion, as light disperses a cloud.
