Worth noting the word māmakīm, «my», with the word «liberation». That is, it does not say «liberation» simply, but «my liberation»; and this possessive is worth noting. It was noted in reading many books that the ultimate, named without a possessive, turns out to be an empty place; here it is named as belonging to someone.
This detail repeats throughout this book: māmakaṃ dhāma, «my abode» (1.27); mat-sāyujya, «union with me» (1.24); mat-sārūpya, «oneness of form with me» (1.21). That is, every one of the states listed is named through him, not on its own; and this, I think, is what sets this book apart from all where the ultimate is described abstractly. Add the word kāla-vaśāt, «by the power of time».
That is, the exhaustion of the begun is ascribed to time, not to effort. A person cannot hasten the wearing of his span, and should not try; and it was said at Yājñavalkya (p15) that five ways of destroying oneself, named in one book «the path of wanderers», were spoken against directly. Here the book holds soberly: wait until it plays out; and this, I think, is the only sound thing that can be said of it.
