उलूप्य् उवाच
जानाम्य् अहं पाण्डवेय यथा चरसि मेदिनीम् ॥
यथा च ते ब्रह्मचर्यम् इदम् आदिष्टवान् गुरुः ॥
परस्परं वर्तमानान् द्रुपदस्यात्मजां प्रति ॥
यो नो ऽनुप्रविशेन् मोहात् स नो द्वादशवार्षिकम् ॥
वने चरेद् ब्रह्मचर्यम् इति वः समयः कृतः ॥
ulūpy uvāca
jānāmy ahaṃ pāṇḍaveya yathā carasi medinīm ||
yathā ca te brahmacaryam idam ādiṣṭavān guruḥ ||
parasparaṃ vartamānān drupadasyātmajāṃ prati ||
yo no 'nupraviśen mohāt sa no dvādaśavārṣikam ||
vane cared brahmacaryam iti vaḥ samayaḥ kṛtaḥ ||
Ulupi said: "I know, O descendant of Pandu, how you wander the earth, and how this vow of celibacy was ordained for you by your teacher; 'you who take turns approaching the daughter of Drupada -- whichever of us intrudes upon another out of folly shall live twelve years as a hermit in the forest' -- such is the pact you all made."

Here the naga maiden reveals her knowledge of the substance of the vow. It is telling that Ulupi knows precisely the terms of the pact: a sound argument rests on knowledge of the matter. And persuasion toward the good must be grounded in true understanding. Thus the scripture reveals Ulupi's knowledge; and upon this knowledge she will build her righteous argument.
