Here Varuna's conch, the resounding Devadatta, is destined for Arjuna — the one whose call will sound on Kurukshetra. It is telling that Maya's gratitude does not remain mere words: "I shall give it — there is no doubt" — and he goes at once to fulfill it. Thus scripture shows faithfulness to a promise; and [next] the sanctity of the place he set out for is revealed.
