स्रग्विणो मौलिनः सर्वे तथा दिव्यपरिच्छदाः ॥
सर्वे लब्धवराः शूराः सर्वे विगतमृत्यवः ॥
ते तस्यां वरुणं देवं धर्मपाशस्थिताः सदा ॥
उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे सुचरितव्रताः ॥

Here the formidable asuras, who have won immortality through boons, nonetheless "abide in the noose of dharma." It is significant that even those free from death have bonds — the bonds of law: no power and no boon removes one from the sway of the higher order. Thus scripture reveals that law encompasses all, even the invincible; and next come the waters, bowed before Varuna.
