आत्मापराधात् सुमहान् प्राप्तस् ते विपुलः क्षयः ॥
न हि ते सुकृतं किं चिद् आदौ मध्ये च भारत ॥
दृश्यते पृष्ठतश् चैव त्वन्मूलो हि पराजयः ॥
तस्माद् अद्य स्थिरो भूत्वा ज्ञात्वा लोकस्य निर्णयम् ॥
शृणु युद्धं यथा वृत्तं घोरं देवासुरोपमम् ॥
प्रविष्टे तव सैन्यं तु शैनेये सत्यविक्रमे ॥
भीमसेनमुखाः पार्थाः प्रतीयुर् वाहिनीं तव ॥

ātmāparādhāt sumahān prāptas te vipulaḥ kṣayaḥ ||
na hi te sukṛtaṃ kiṃ cid ādau madhye ca bhārata ||
dṛśyate pṛṣṭhataś caiva tvanmūlo hi parājayaḥ ||
tasmād adya sthiro bhūtvā jñātvā lokasya nirṇayam ||
śṛṇu yuddhaṃ yathā vṛttaṃ ghoraṃ devāsuropamam ||
praviṣṭe tava sainyaṃ tu śaineye satyavikrame ||
bhīmasenamukhāḥ pārthāḥ pratīyur vāhinīṃ tava ||

"An exceedingly great ruin has befallen you [from] your own fault, for there is nothing good in you, neither at the beginning nor in the middle, O Bharata. Therefore now, having become firm, having learned the world's verdict, hear how the battle unfolded, terrible, resembling the battle of gods and asuras. When the truly valiant Shaineya had entered your army, the Parthas, [led] by Bhimasena, advanced [upon] your host."
