Then, on a chariot with horses driven at full speed and duly equipped, Satyaki came upon the Bhoja in battle, the model among archers. Then, extremely enraged, like two blazing fires, the two tiger-like men met, like two swift tigers. Kritavarman showered the son of Shini with twenty-six sharp, keen arrows, and his charioteer with seven, and pierced his four excellent, well-trained Sindhu horses of the Satvata with four supreme arrows.

Two equal masters meet, "pratimānaṃ dhanuṣmatām," models among archers, like two tigers. The epic diminishes neither. It is telling that the grandeur of the clash lies in the equality of the opponents. The verse teaches that a worthy adversary elevates valor: to overcome one's equal in mastery is more glorious than to crush the weak, and so the meeting of two perfections, standing on opposite sides, becomes the true measure of both men's courage.
