संजातरुधिरश् चाजौ सात्वतेषुभिर् अर्दितः ॥
प्रचलन् धनुर् उत्सृज्य न्यपतत् स्यन्दनोत्तमे ॥
स सिंहदंष्ट्रो जानुभ्याम् आपन्नो ऽमितविक्रमः ॥
शरार्दितः सात्यकिना रथोपस्थे नरर्षभः ॥
सहस्रबाहोः सदृशम् अक्षोभ्यम् इव सागरम् ॥
निवार्य कृतवर्माणं सात्यकिः प्रययौ ततः ॥
saṃjātarudhiraś cājau sātvateṣubhir arditaḥ ||
pracalan dhanur utsṛjya nyapatat syandanottame ||
sa siṃhadaṃṣṭro jānubhyām āpanno 'mitavikramaḥ ||
śarārditaḥ sātyakinā rathopasthe nararṣabhaḥ ||
sahasrabāhoḥ sadṛśam akṣobhyam iva sāgaram ||
nivārya kṛtavarmāṇaṃ sātyakiḥ prayayau tataḥ ||
And, streaming with blood in the battle, worn down by the arrows of the Satvata, staggering, dropping his bow, Kritavarman sank down upon his splendid chariot. He, with lion-like fangs, of measureless valor, wounded by Satyaki's arrows, fell to his knees on the chariot's platform, that bull among men. Having checked Kritavarman -- who was like the thousand-armed Kartavirya -- as unshaken as the ocean, Satyaki then moved onward.

Satyaki is likened to "akṣobhyam iva sāgaram," the unshaken ocean, and to thousand-armed Kartavirya: measureless, calm might. Having checked the formidable Kritavarman, he does not linger but moves on -- toward Arjuna. It is telling that he does not regard even his greatest victory as an end, but only as an obstacle passed. The verse teaches that one set upon the highest goal is not captivated by the triumphs along the way: for one whose heart is given to what matters most, every victory is but a step, and he moves on without turning back to look at the fallen.
