तं प्रत्यविध्यद् राधेयो जाम्बूनदविभूषितैः ॥
चतुर्दशभिर् अत्य् उग्रैर् नाराचैर् अविचारयन् ॥
ते भीमसेनस्य भुजं सव्यं निर्भिद्य पत्रिणः ॥
प्राविशन् मेदिनीं भीमाः क्रौञ्चं पत्ररथा इव ॥
ते व्यरोचन्त नाराचाः प्रविशन्तो वसुंधराम् ॥
गच्छत्य् अस्तं दिनकरे दीप्यमाना इवांशवः ॥
स निर्भिन्नो रणे भीमो नाराचैर् मर्मभेदिभिः ॥
सुस्राव रुधिरं भूरि पर्वतः सलिलं यथा ॥
taṃ pratyavidhyad rādheyo jāmbūnadavibhūṣitaiḥ ||
caturdaśabhir aty ugrair nārācair avicārayan ||
te bhīmasenasya bhujaṃ savyaṃ nirbhidya patriṇaḥ ||
prāviśan medinīṃ bhīmāḥ krauñcaṃ patrarathā iva ||
te vyarocanta nārācāḥ praviśanto vasuṃdharām ||
gacchaty astaṃ dinakare dīpyamānā ivāṃśavaḥ ||
sa nirbhinno raṇe bhīmo nārācair marmabhedibhiḥ ||
susrāva rudhiraṃ bhūri parvataḥ salilaṃ yathā ||
The son of Radha struck him in return, without hesitation, with fourteen most fierce iron arrows adorned with gold. They, piercing Bhimasena's left arm, feathered, entered the earth, fearsome, like birds into the mountain Krauncha. Those iron arrows, entering the earth, shone like blazing rays when the sun goes to its setting. Bhima, pierced in the battle by iron arrows piercing his vital parts, shed blood abundantly, as a mountain sheds water.

Blow meets equal blow — fourteen against fourteen — and Bhima bleeds as a mountain pours forth its streams. The comparison to sunset rays sinking into the earth is telling: the poet finds a fearsome beauty even in the deadly, without turning his eyes from its cost. The verse teaches that a duel of equals brings no easy victory, only mutual wounds; and the grandeur of battle is inseparable from the blood that flows like water down a mountainside.
