A short mantra establishing the identity of two syllables: the seed klīṁ, with which the five-worded mantra begins, and OṀ.
The significance of this is great. OṀ is a syllable acknowledged by the whole Veda; klīṁ belongs to the circle of mantras considered later and particular. By declaring their identity the book sets its own mantra on a level with the most honoured sound of śruti.
The same device was used before: the five-worded mantra was compared to the five elements of the cosmos, and its words to the vyāhṛtis, the sacred calls of the gāyatrī.
Note here too the appeal to "the knowers of Brahman": the assertion is presented not as this book's discovery but as the common reading of the Vedāntins.
The practical conclusion is the same as in the Pūrva-tāpanī: the mantra is uttered enclosed within the oṁkāra — and this is not the joining of two different things but the unfolding of one.
