«There the worlds, Vedas, śāstras, purāṇas, dharmas, medicines, luminaries — from the union of Śiva and Śakti: thus [everything] is composed — so it is read. Now we shall explain his highest cave, arisen from the great mantra: Brahman is eternal».

The foundation of everything listed is named: śiva-śakti-yogāt, «from the union of Śiva and Śakti». The word yoga stands here in its plain sense — «union, conjunction»: not from Śiva, not from Śakti, but from their conjunction. The whole Sāvitrī-upaniṣad (Muktikā 75) said the same thing through nine pairs: the world is arranged in couples.
This position is accepted entirely; only the names differ. The world comes not from Him alone and not from power alone, but from their conjunction; hence in Vaishnava theology one does not say «Kṛṣṇa» without «Rādhā» where the talk turns to creation and to divine play. The second word worth attention is gahvara, «cave, depth, hidden place»: this is what is about to be explained. An honest word: it says the subject is dark, not that it is clear.
In the very list stand side by side dharma and cikitsita, «medicine» — that is, among what proceeds from the union is counted medicine too. This is not a trifle: here the sacred is not separated from the useful, and healing stands in the same row as the luminaries and the law.
