अनेनैव प्रकारेण पुनर्दशारचक्रं भवति । मध्यत्रिकोणाग्रचतुष्टया द्रेखाचराग्रकोणेषु संयोज्य तद्दशारांशतोनीतां मानयष्टिरेखां योजयित्वा चतुर्दशारं चक्रं भवति । ततोऽष्टपत्रसंवृतं चक्रं भवति

The construction is brought to the petals, and here the kind of figures changes. Until now everything was angles: triangles, an octagon, decagons, a fourteen-sided figure — and now patra, «petals»: eight, and following them sixteen. The change is not accidental. Angles are powers: they pierce, are directional, have a point. Petals are an opening: they are soft, turned outward, and pierce nothing. At the center of the diagram, points; on the outside, a flower.
This agrees with everything the lotus means in Indian books: an open flower is a constant sign of readiness to receive. The lotus is everywhere in Vaishnava descriptions — one stands on it, is born from it, holds it in hand, and the heart is called a lotus; and it is always depicted open, for a closed bud means something not yet ready. Outside the diagram there will still be an enclosure with four gates (52). The order, then, is: points, petals, walls — inside power, in the middle blossoming, outside an enclosure; and anyone who has built a house or grown a garden will recognize this order.
