अमृतं ब्राह्मणा गावो गन्धर्वाप्सरसस् तथा ॥
अपत्यं कपिलायास् तु पुराणे परिकीर्तितम् ॥
इति ते सर्वभूतानां संभवः कथितो मया ॥
यथावत् परिसंख्यातो गन्धर्वाप्सरसां तथा ॥
भुजगानां सुपर्णानां रुद्राणां मरुतां तथा ॥
गवां च ब्राह्मणानां च श्रीमतां पुण्यकर्मणाम् ॥
आयुष्यश् चैव पुण्यश् च धन्यः श्रुतिसुखावहः ॥
श्रोतव्यश् चैव सततं श्राव्यश् चैवानसूयता ॥
इमं तु वंशं नियमेन यः पठेन् ।
महात्मनां ब्राह्मणदेवसंनिधौ ॥
अपत्यलाभं लभते स पुष्कलं ।
श्रियं यशः प्रेत्य च शोभनां गतिम् ॥

mahātmanāṃ brāhmaṇadevasaṃnidhau ||
apatyalābhaṃ labhate sa puṣkalaṃ |
śriyaṃ yaśaḥ pretya ca śobhanāṃ gatim ||
Amrita, brahmins, cows, gandharvas and apsaras — the offspring of Kapilā, as recounted in the Purāṇa. Thus the origin of all beings, and of the gandharvas and apsaras, has been duly recounted by me, having enumerated them as is proper; and the origin of serpents, birds, Rudras, Maruts, cows, and brahmins, glorious and righteous in their deeds, has been told. This account bestows long life, is meritorious and auspicious, and delights the ear; it should be constantly heard and retold without malice. And whoever reads this lineage of great souls in the presence of brahmins and gods, under a vow, obtains abundant offspring, prosperity, fame, and, after death, a blessed destiny.

Here the genealogy closes with a fruit-promise (phala-śruti): whoever reverently reads this list of lineages obtains offspring, prosperity, fame, and a blessed fate after death. It is telling that even a bare list of names carries redemptive power — for it is a remembrance of God's creation and of holy lineages; the reverent repetition of the names of righteous and divine beings sanctifies of itself. Here is the principle of kīrtana: remembrance — of names, deeds, and lineages — is itself a virtuous act, purifying and uplifting. Telling, too, is the completion of the "descent of divine portions": having shown the fullness of creation — from gods and demons to birds, serpents, and celestial maidens — the scripture has rooted the heroes of the coming drama in this universal genealogy. Now that the "stage" of existence has been shown in full, the narrative will turn to specific incarnations: which god or demon was born as which hero of the Bharatas. Thus the general (the lineage of all) serves as the foundation for the particular (the descent within the heroes); and the reader, having seen the oneness of creation, is prepared to see in human history a reflection of the divine design.
