अनुवाद

From the mutual devouring of creatures hungry for food, adharma was born there, the destroyer of all beings. Her (adharma's) husband is Nirriti, whence the rakshasas are called nairrita; she has three dread sons devoted to wickedness: Bhaya (Fear), Mahabhaya (Great Fear), and Mrityu (Death), the ender of beings. The goddess Tamra bore five daughters renowned in the world: Kaki, Shyeni, Bhasi, Dhritarashtri, and Shuki. Kaki gave birth to owls, Shyeni to hawks, Bhasi bore the bhasa birds and vultures, O lord of men. Dhritarashtri bore swans, kalahamsa geese, and every kind of chakravaka duck, good fortune to you; and Shuki, wise, endowed with auspicious qualities, honored for every mark of beauty, bore parrots, O knower of dharma. Krodhavasha bore nine daughters, born of herself: Mrigi, and Mrigamanda, Hari, and also Bhadramana, then Matangi, and Sharduli, Shveta and Surabhi, and also the illustrious Surasa, endowed with every mark. From Mrigi come all the grass-eating beasts, O son of the best of men; from Mrigamanda come bears, srimaras, and also chamaras (yaks). And Bhadramana bore a son, the elephant Airavata; and so her son Airavata is the elephant of the gods, the great elephant. From Hari come the hari monkeys and swift monkeys, and langurs, good fortune to you — they are called the sons of Hari. And Sharduli bore lions and tigers, O Bharata, and leopards, O fortunate one — all of these, without doubt. From Matangi come the elephants (matanga), O lord of men; and Shveta bore the swift elephant of the quarters named Shveta. Surabhi bore two daughters, O king — Rohini, good fortune to you, and the illustrious Gandharvi; from Rohini were born cows, from Gandharvi, horses. Surasa bore the nagas, O king, and Kadru the lesser serpents; and Anala bore seven trees bearing edible fruit. Aruna's wife Shyeni bore the mighty Sampati and Jatayus; and Vinata has two renowned sons — Garuda and Aruna. Such, O lord of men, is the origin of all the great beings, truly recounted by me, O best of the wise — hearing which, a man is purified of sin, attains omniscience, and reaches the highest destination.
