एतच् छ्रुत्वा वचस् तस्या देव्याः प्रियचिकीर्षया ॥
पृथ्वाद्यैर् भ्रातृभिः सार्धं द्यौस् तदा तां जहार गाम् ॥
तया कमलपत्राक्ष्या नियुक्तो द्यौस् तदा नृप ॥
ऋषेस् तस्य तपस् तीव्रं न शशाक निरीक्षितुम् ॥
हृता गौः सा तदा तेन प्रपातस् तु न तर्कितः ॥
अथाश्रमपदं प्राप्तः फलान्य् आदाय वारुणिः ॥
न चापश्यत गां तत्र सवत्सां काननोत्तमे ॥
ततः स मृगयाम् आस वने तस्मिंस् तपोधनः ॥
नाध्यगच्छच् च मृगयंस् तां गां मुनिर् उदारधीः ॥

tataḥ sa mṛgayām āsa vane tasmiṃs tapodhanaḥ ||
nādhyagacchac ca mṛgayaṃs tāṃ gāṃ munir udāradhīḥ ||

तया कमलपत्राक्ष्या नियुक्तः द्यौः तदा नृप ऋषेः तस्य तपः तीव्रं न शशाक निरीक्षितुं हृता गौः सा तदा तेन प्रपातः तु न तर्कितःtayā kamalapatrākṣyā niyuktaḥ dyauḥ tadā nṛpa ṛṣeḥ tasya tapaḥ tīvraṃ na śaśāka nirīkṣituṃ hṛtā gauḥ sā tadā tena prapātaḥ tu na tarkitaḥurged on by that lotus-eyed [wife], Dyu then, O king, could not even face the fierce austerity of that sage; the cow was stolen by him then -- but he did not consider [his] coming downfall
अथ आश्रमपदं प्राप्तः फलानि आदाय वारुणिः न च अपश्यत गां तत्र सवत्सां काननोत्तमेatha āśramapadaṃ prāptaḥ phalāni ādāya vāruṇiḥ na ca apaśyata gāṃ tatra savatsāṃ kānanottameand so, arriving at the hermitage, having gathered fruits, the son of Varuna did not see the cow with her calf there in that excellent forest

अनुवाद

"Having heard this speech of that goddess, wishing to do her a kindness, together with his brothers -- Prithu and the rest -- Dyu then stole that cow. Urged on by that lotus-eyed wife, Dyu then, O king, could not even face the fierce austerity of that sage; the cow was stolen by him then -- but he did not consider his coming downfall. And so, arriving at the hermitage, having gathered fruits, the son of Varuna did not see the cow with her calf there in that excellent forest. Then he searched for her in that forest, he who was rich in austerity; and searching, the sage of lofty mind did not find that cow."
