तथोक्तवाक्यं तु पुरोहितं तं; स्थितं विनीतं समुदीक्ष्य राजा ॥
समीपस्थं भीमम् इदं शशास; प्रदीयतां पाद्यम् अर्घ्यं तथास्मै ॥
मान्यः पुरोधा द्रुपदस्य राज्ञस्; तस्मै प्रयोज्याभ्यधिकैव पूजा ॥
भीमस् तथा तत् कृतवान् नरेन्द्र; तां चैव पूजां प्रतिसंगृहीत्वा ॥
tathoktavākyaṃ tu purohitaṃ taṃ; sthitaṃ vinītaṃ samudīkṣya rājā ||
samīpasthaṃ bhīmam idaṃ śaśāsa; pradīyatāṃ pādyam arghyaṃ tathāsmai ||
mānyaḥ purodhā drupadasya rājñas; tasmai prayojyābhyadhikaiva pūjā ||
bhīmas tathā tat kṛtavān narendra; tāṃ caiva pūjāṃ pratisaṃgṛhītvā ||
"Having looked upon that priest, thus speaking, standing humbly, king Yudhishthira commanded Bhima, who stood nearby: 'Let water for the feet and arghya be brought to him; the priest of king Drupada is honorable, let special honor be shown to him.' Bhima did so, O lord of men, and the priest, having received that honor, --"

Here the hosts honor the brahmin envoy. It is significant that Yudhishthira orders ‘special honor’ to be shown to the priest: even in poverty, the brahmin guest receives his due. Here is the unchanging dharma of hospitality: the worthy are honored whatever one's own circumstances. Thus the scripture shows the good conduct of the Pandavas; and the honor shown to the priest testifies to their true dignity more than words could.
