स्वतेजोभास्वरं चक्रम् उत्ससर्ज जनार्दनः ॥
तेन ता जातयः क्षुद्राः सदानवनिशाचराः ॥
निकृत्ताः शतशः सर्वा निपेतुर् अनलं क्षणात् ॥
अदृश्यन् राक्षसास् तत्र कृष्णचक्रविदारिताः ॥
वसारुधिरसंपृक्ताः संध्यायाम् इव तोयदाः ॥
svatejobhāsvaraṃ cakram utsasarja janārdanaḥ ||
tena tā jātayaḥ kṣudrāḥ sadānavaniśācarāḥ ||
nikṛttāḥ śataśaḥ sarvā nipetur analaṃ kṣaṇāt ||
adṛśyan rākṣasās tatra kṛṣṇacakravidāritāḥ ||
vasārudhirasaṃpṛktāḥ saṃdhyāyām iva toyadāḥ ||
"The disc, blazing with its own radiance, Janardana hurled; by it those lowly races, with the danavas and night-wanderers, cut down by the hundreds, all fell into the fire in an instant; there could be seen rakshasas, torn apart by Krishna's disc, drenched in fat and blood, like clouds at twilight."

Here the Lord's disc strikes down the evil races. It is telling that the blow falls first upon the "lowly races" — danavas, night-wanderers, rakshasas: the Lord's weapon punishes above all the dark forces. In this the nature of the Sudarshana disc is revealed — the scourge of evil. So does scripture show the disc's action; and terrible is this image of a crimson sunset made of blood.
