तस्माद् इतः सुरैः सार्धं गन्तुम् अर्हसि वासव ॥
दिष्टं चाप्य् अनुपश्यैतत् खाण्डवस्य विनाशनम् ॥

Here the forest's destruction is declared to be preordained from above. The word "fated [dishtam]" is significant: what is unfolding is neither chance nor human will alone, but the working out of destiny. Thus it is revealed that even terrible events unfold within the inscrutable design of Providence. So does scripture reveal the providential nature of events; and it befits Indra to submit to what is foreordained.
