स चक्रम् उद्यतं दृष्ट्वा दिधक्षुं च हुताशनम् ॥
अभिधावार्जुनेत्य् एवं मयश् चुक्रोश भारत ॥
तस्य भीतस्वनं श्रुत्वा मा भैर् इति धनंजयः ॥
प्रत्युवाच मयं पार्थो जीवयन्न् इव भारत ॥

अनुवाद
He, seeing the raised chakra and the fire eager to burn him, cried, 'Run to me, Arjuna!' -- thus Maya called out; hearing his frightened voice, Dhananjaya, Partha, answered Maya, 'Fear not!' as though restoring him to life.

Here to the one who cries out for protection is granted "fear not." It is significant that Arjuna's word "fear not" is like one restoring life: the one who takes refuge in a protector is not turned away, but saved. Here is the image of abhaya-dana [the gift of fearlessness], which the Lord and his devotee grant to one who surrenders to them: whoever cries out for shelter is saved. Thus scripture reveals Arjuna's mercy; and his word turns death into life.
