ततः प्रवेशनं चक्रे तस्यां राजा युधिष्ठिरः ॥
अयुतं भोजयाम् आस ब्राह्मणानां नराधिपः ॥
घृतपायसेन मधुना भक्ष्यैर् मूलफलैस् तथा ॥
अहतैश् चैव वासोभिर् माल्यैर् उच्चावचैर् अपि ॥
ददौ तेभ्यः सहस्राणि गवां प्रत्येकशः प्रभुः ॥
पुण्याहघोषस् तत्रासीद् दिवस्पृग् इव भारत ॥

ghṛtapāyasena madhunā bhakṣyair mūlaphalais tathā ||
ahataiś caiva vāsobhir mālyair uccāvacair api ||
dadau tebhyaḥ sahasrāṇi gavāṃ pratyekaśaḥ prabhuḥ ||
puṇyāhaghoṣas tatrāsīd divaspṛg iva bhārata ||

तस्याम् राजा युधिष्ठिरःtasyām rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥinto that [hall], King Yudhishthira;
अयुतम् भोजयाम् आसayutam bhojayām āsaten thousand he fed
ब्राह्मणानाम् नराधिपःbrāhmaṇānām narādhipaḥbrahmins, the lord of men,
घृत-पायसेन मधुनाghṛta-pāyasena madhunāwith milk-rice cooked in ghee, with honey,
भक्ष्यैः मूल-फलैः तथाbhakṣyaiḥ mūla-phalaiḥ tathāwith delicacies, roots and fruits,
अहतैः च एव वासोभिःahataiḥ ca eva vāsobhiḥand with new garments,
माल्यैः उच्च-अवचैः अपिmālyaiḥ ucca-avacaiḥ apiand garlands of every kind;
ददौ तेभ्यः सहस्राणि गवाम्dadau tebhyaḥ sahasrāṇi gavāmhe gave them thousands of cows,
प्रत्येकशः प्रभुःpratyekaśaḥ prabhuḥto each one, the lord;
पुण्य-अह-घोषः तत्र आसीत्puṇya-aha-ghoṣaḥ tatra āsītthe cry "auspicious day!" stood there,
दिवः-स्पृक् इव भारतdivaḥ-spṛk iva bhārataas though touching the heavens, O Bharata.

अनुवाद

Vaishampayana said: "Then King Yudhishthira performed the consecration [of the entrance] to that hall; the lord of men fed ten thousand brahmins with milk-rice cooked in ghee, with honey, delicacies, roots and fruits, new garments and garlands of every kind; and he gave each of them a thousand cows. The cry of 'auspicious day!' stood there as though touching the heavens, O Bharata."
