तत्राद्भुतं परं चक्रे कौन्तेयः कृष्णसारथिः ॥
यद् एको बहुभिः सार्धं समागच्छद् अभीतवत् ॥
अशोभत महाबाहुर् गाण्डीवं विक्षिपन् धनुः ॥
जिगीषुस् तान् नरव्याघ्राञ् जिघांसुश् च जयद्रथम् ॥
तत्रार्जुनो महाराज शरैर् मुक्तैः सहस्रशः ॥
अदृश्यान् अकरोद् योधांस् तावकाञ् शत्रुतापनः ॥
ततस् ते ऽपि नरव्याघ्राः पार्थं सर्वे महारथाः ॥
अदृश्यं समरे चक्रुः सायकौघैः समन्ततः ॥
संवृते नरसिंहैस् तैः कुरूणाम् ऋषभे ऽर्जुने ॥
महान् आसीत् समुद्धूतस् तस्य सैन्यस्य निस्वनः ॥
tatrādbhutaṃ paraṃ cakre kaunteyaḥ kṛṣṇasārathiḥ ||
yad eko bahubhiḥ sārdhaṃ samāgacchad abhītavat ||
aśobhata mahābāhur gāṇḍīvaṃ vikṣipan dhanuḥ ||
jigīṣus tān naravyāghrāñ jighāṃsuś ca jayadratham ||
tatrārjuno mahārāja śarair muktaiḥ sahasraśaḥ ||
adṛśyān akarod yodhāṃs tāvakāñ śatrutāpanaḥ ||
tatas te 'pi naravyāghrāḥ pārthaṃ sarve mahārathāḥ ||
adṛśyaṃ samare cakruḥ sāyakaughaiḥ samantataḥ ||
saṃvṛte narasiṃhais taiḥ kurūṇām ṛṣabhe 'rjune ||
mahān āsīt samuddhūtas tasya sainyasya nisvanaḥ ||
There the son of Kunti, with Krishna as his charioteer, wrought the highest wonder: that he alone engaged many fearlessly. The mighty-armed one shone, brandishing the bow Gandiva, desiring to overcome those tiger-like men and to slay Jayadratha. There Arjuna, O great king, the tormentor of enemies, made your warriors invisible with arrows loosed by the thousands. Then those tiger-like men too, all great warriors, made Partha invisible in battle with streams of arrows from every side. When Arjuna, the bull [among] the Kurus, was surrounded by those lion-like men, a great roar of that army arose.

The supreme adbhutam of the battle is eko bahubhiḥ sārdhaṃ samāgacchad abhītavat — that one man fearlessly stood against many: this fearlessness comes from Krishna the charioteer, whose presence turns one into the equal of a multitude. Arjuna's eye remains fixed here too on his main goal — jighāṃsuḥ ca jayadratham. It is telling that the mutual adṛśyān akarot — both sides obscuring each other under clouds of arrows — cannot hide the one protected by the Lord. The verse teaches that with God as charioteer, even one is never alone, and fear retreats where the Supreme Himself holds the reins.
